you've included html5 tag, i'm going assume want create web-page has im functionality built in.

ucwa need in instance. ucwa rest-like api accessing lync im , presence. can use ucwa http request/response, examples using javascript. have @ ucwa.lync.com - find online examples , code samples.

also, if you're developing project on this, depending on timeline, should aware of new technology announced @ lync conference 2014. code name jlync, , bring "browser extensibility voice, video & content."
