bluetooth lowenergy - Android BLE Background Discovery -


i attended ios meetup ble , ibeacon discussed. apparently on ios app can receive notifications of discovery of ble services in passive manner. is, os notifies when new service (device) in range.

is there analog behavior on android? familiar both classic scanning behavior on android new startlescan() on android. problem both of these behaviors considered "battery intensive" google , google says scan when absolutely necessary.

i in perpetual ble scan mode peripherals , other centrals way ios devices can be. functionality available? if not, has functionality been announced upcoming versions of android?
