appstore approval - The iOS App Review Process: Is gifting access to functionality a violation of the guidelines? -
the app in question contain typical non renewable subscription model unlock functionality, have mechanism gain access additional functionality.
this app allow user purchase (assume consumable) access full functionality fixed duration user. of course app have track custom sort of subscription model in own backend, beyond reconciling user's gifted subscription time self-purchased subscription, there doesn't appear technical hurdle here.
while mechanism we're leveraging have outside of apple (and in app's backend), purchase of time still going through apple. violation of 11.1 (or other guideline)?
in app i've worked on implemented feature allowing user gift (one time) 1 month subscription user.
the app has been rejected 2 times because, accordingly tos, no physical item exchanged in-app purchases.
replying , assuring in both cases no physical item exchanged didn't change - app still rejected, in end feature has been removed app.
update 2014-04-14
just found this page, explicitly stating
you can't gift in-app purchase
(expand types of in-app purchases section).
that should solve ambiguity...
